This is a common sixteen matra tala heard occasionally in classical music and frequently in semi-classical forms. The unique form of this tala is the use of off-beats which gives it its swaying feel. Many musicians see this tala as a prakar of tintal, despite its bol difference. This tala was said to have been invented by Siddhar Khan, thus name “sitarkhani.” This tala is also known as “adha tala” and “punjabi tala.”
