Tintal is a commonly used tala
in North Indian music. Beginners study this tala as
it is perfectly symmetrical as far as the divisions are concerned. The
distinguishing factor is the third vibhaga, where the
baya’s presence is primarily empty. Tintal means “three-claps.” The claps or talis fall on matras 1, 5, and
13.
